NRA Pistol or Rifle Instructor Class, with BIT

- Next Class, Summer of 2020

Basic Instructor Training (BIT) on Saturday morning, Instructor Class Saturday afternoon and Sunday. Prerequisite: Must complete the full NRA Basics of Pistol or Rifle Shooting Instructor Led class and qualification.

NRA CCW Instructor Class.  16 hours, BIT not included.

Pre-requisets: Active NRA Pistol Instructor for 1 year, Basic CCW Student, Current BIT.  Instructor candidates muse poses good defensive pistol skills prior to attending, as the qualifying course of fire is challenging.

NRA Range Safety Officer

Range Safety Officer candidates will learn roles and responsibilities of an RSO; Range Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); range inspection; range rules; range briefings; emergency procedures; and firearm stoppages and malfunctions. All students will participate in hands-on exercises.  NRA Textbook included.

This class is a prerequisite for the Chief RSO class.

Note that all Live Fire classes are conducted at an outdoor range, with covered firing points and a concrete slab.  Classes will go forward under most weather conditions - unless it is a "wash out".  Students should dress appropriately and are advised that it tends to be colder at the range, which is at a higher elevation above the Mohawk Valley.

NRA Basics of Rifle Shooting Class - The GOLD standard in Rifle training classes! Students will learn: Safety, Marksmanship Skills, Shooting Positions, Cleaning & Maintenance. Based on the .22 rim-fire rifle, loaner rifles available if needed. Adults and Youth age 12 and up can participate. NRA Textbook provided. *Note that this class is a mandatory prerequisite for those attending the NRA Rifle Instructor Class.  discount available for a youth attending with a paid adult.

USCCA - Countering the Mass Shooter Threat.

Learn how to plan for, prevent or take necessary action during a Active Shooter attack or other threat at your work place, organization or church.  Students will learn how to create an Emergency Operations Plan.  Offered as a private class for your organization or as small group class.

US Concealed Carry Association - Concealed Carry Handgun

7 hour live fire class.   

This is the premium, introductory CCW class.  Covers defensive close-range shooting, equipment selection, legal issues related to concealed carry & use of deadly force and developing a personal protection plan.


Hands-on Live fire defensive pistol training!


Private one-on-one lessons available, with the live-fire portion at a local indoor range, membership at the range is required.

NRA First Steps Rifle class


NRA First Steps Rifle - Based around the M1 Garand. Students will learn basic Safety, Operations and Maintenance and Marksmanship with a US GI Surplus M1. This class is in conjunction with a CMP Military Rifle Match, and shooters will participate in the 50-shot National Match Course. Students may be able to use a club loaner rifle, and will be required to purchase club ammo if they do. For youth or female shooters, use of a loaner M1 Carbine may be available. NRA Chief Range Safety Officer


Saturday & Sunday class

Students must attend the NRA BIT (Basic Instructor Training) on Saturday morning unless they have already taken the BIT within the last 3 years.

Prerequisite: Must be an NRA Certified Range Safety Officer. Course is presented in two parts: Basic Instructor Training and NRA Chief Range Safety Officer training. Sessions include standard operating procedures, inspections, emergency procedures, firearm stoppages and malfunctions, safety briefings. Students demonstrate organizational and teaching skills via participation in practical exercises and complete an open book exam.

USCCA Basic Handgun Class. 

This class covers the basics of defensive handgun use, cleaning & maintenance and live fire training practice.  The SIRT laser pistol will also be used.

NRA Basic Personal Protection in the Home

8 hour class

Home invasion crime is on the rise in our area.  How would you react if it happened to your?  Do you know how to deter these crimes? 


This is a full-day class covering many aspects personal protection: awareness training, securing your home or business and  basic defensive pistol shooting.  Includes hands-on training and live fire exercises to build your skills and confidence.

This class is required to apply for a NYS CCW Pistol Permit in Herkimer, Madison, Oneida and other central NY counties.   Cost for this class is $50.  $5 discount for Veterans.  Private classes available.
